In addition to on-water instruction, the Fall Masters Program includes the following:

  • Row2Music sessions (drop-in, indoor erg program, Mondays, 6:45-8:00pm)
  • Independent erging/weight training at our indoor location
    • All Fall masters will have access to our indoor facility (ergs and weight equipment), arranged on participant basis
  • Independent Zoom erg sessions with a buddy
    • All Fall masters will have access to the CCRA Masters Zoom meeting ID, so they can erg remotely with their CCRA buddies at their convenience (for those who have an erg at home).

Program Schedule

  • Weekly Coached Sessions:
    • Saturdays, 7am – 9am, ‘Rowing Skills’, at Lake Meahagh only.
    • Sundays, 6am – 8am at the Hudson River.
  • Curriculum:
    • Coached sessions will focus on sweep rowing (4 or 8 rowers plus coxswain), but limited opportunities for sculling are possible.
    • Team drills to refine technical stroke skills
    • Practices will take place rain or shine, unless there is a safety concern. In the event of a bad weather forecast, practice will move indoors to our 6th St location, and will be announced on SportsYou.
    • We are looking to expand coxswain rotation, so please be open to learning a new skill!
  • Important: No practice on September 22 and October 27
  • Weekly on-water informal rows at Lake Meahagh. This is intended to be a sculling session, but is dependent on weather conditions, number of rowers attending that day, skill level of rowers attending that day, etc.:
    • Wednesdays: 7:30am-9:30am

Led by experienced, approved masters rowers. Sweep or sculling, depending on weather conditions, number of rowers attending that day, skill level of rowers attending that day, etc.

Independent, non-coached rows (additional $55 fee)

Arranged on participant basis for highly experienced rowers only:

‘Approved’ rowers that have passed a safety/proficiency test given by the head coach may sign up to row any size boat (singles up to coxed 8’s) on Lake Meahagh at their convenience, as long as other practice sessions are not in-session. These ‘approved’ rowers (see list of approved rowers here) must “buddy up” with at least one other Experienced or Approved rower at all times. Strict adherence to CCRA Independent on-water rules, and Lake Meahagh’s traffic pattern is required.

Racing

Additional non-refundable racing fees (per seat fee and travel fee). Rowers MUST commit to attending the race when final boat assignments are made.

  • Head of the Hudson, Sunday, September 22: Albany, NY
  • Poughkeepsie Regatta, Saturday, October 5: Poughkeepsie, NY
  • Head of the Schuylkill, Saturday, October 26: Philadelphia, PA. A limited number of masters races will also take place on Sunday, October 27.

Safety / Health

  • Swim test requirements: Swim 50 meters, tread water for 10 minutes, put on a PFD (lifejacket) while treading water. This is for your safety.
    • New masters must pass this test in their first season.
    • Current masters must pass this test within the last 12 months.
    • Fall season swim test date/location is TBA.
  • All Masters must abide by CCRA Safety requirements, and watch the US Rowing Safety video every year. See the Safety Requirements page.
